Retailers upbeat about shopping season

Steady and in some cases strong customer traffic last week has retailers looking forward to a bright Christmas shopping season this month.

Customer traffic was steady Friday for Billy Price’s Ace Hardware, said owner Dusty Price.

‘It was good,’ Price said. ‘It was more of a normal day for us.’

Customers bought ordinary ‘every day stuff,’ he said, adding that sales of electronics weren’t as strong as they have been in recent years.

Customer traffic was better on Saturday, and nice weather that day may have attracted shoppers.

Price noted that overall sales on Black Friday were up from a year ago.

‘Our year ends in June, and every month this year we’ve been up,’ he said. ‘I don’t see that changing.’

Asked about cheaper gasoline prices, Price said he does not see them having a major impact on shoppers this fall.
