Trout program give opportunities to Texas cities

The trout are back.

Approximately 1,800 rainbow trout arrived in Levelland Tuesday morning courtesy of the city and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s  Inland Fisheries Division.

Cody Talley, a fisheries technician with the state, picked up the fish at a hatchery at Possum Kingdom Lake and then drove to Levelland.

Talley took the temperature at both lakes here before releasing them.

The temperature at Lobo Lake was 8.9 degrees Celsius, or approximately 48 degrees Fahrenheit. That was just two degrees lower than the water temperature in the tanks that contained the trout.

They mainly feed on bugs.

‘There may still be some bugs,’ Talley said. ‘Hopefully, they’ll get plenty of kids out here to catch them.’
