Local economy ending 2014 on bright note

The local economy is  headed for a bright finish this year with low unemployment and new records set in other areas.

The unemployment rate for Hockley County slipped from 3.2 percent in October to 3.0 percent last month.

It was 4.0 percent in November 2013.

A total of 12,924 people were working in the county in November, while 405 were out of work.

Cochran County’s jobless rate declined from 4.7 percent in October to 4.4 percent in November.

It stood at 6.6 percent in November 2013.

By comparison, the nation’s unemployment rate last month, not seasonally adjusted, stood at 5.5 percent.

Texas added 34,800 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in November, breaking a record set in October as the state’s annual job growth expanded for the fourth month in a row.
