Hockley County Junior Livestock Show continues

In spite of the winter weather and snow on the ground, the Hockley County Junior Livestock Show continued Thursday morning.

The main item on the schedule was the annual hog show which kicked off at 9 a.m. and was expected to continue into the afternoon.

The goat, lamb, rabbit, heifer and steer shows were held Wednesday.

Machayla Parkinson, a member of the Levelland 4-H, had the grand champion heifer. Caden Crenshaw, a Whitharral 4-H member showed the reserve champion heifer.

Rebecca Seigman of Smyer FFA won the senior heifer showmanship award at the Hockley Countty Livestock Show.

Tyler Parkinson, Whitharral 4-H, won the junior heifer showmanship award.

Two Smyer FFA members, Ethan Ramirez and Kaiden Lee showed the top rabbits at the Hockley County Livestock Show Wednesday.

Verity Robinson, a Hockley County 4-H’er, won the junior rabbit showmanship award and Rebecca Seigman won the senior showmanship award.

Weston Sasser, a Whitharral  4-H’er, showed the grand champion steer at the Hockley County Livestock Show.
Caden Crenshaw, also a Whitharral 4-H’er, showed the reserve grand champion steer.

Brayden Shaw and Cooper Shaw, Smyer 4-H’ers, earned the senior and junior showmanship awards at the steer show.

Levi Sasser won the pee wee steer showmanship award.

An octogan-shaped grill and picnic table built by Whitharral FFA members Jacob Evan and Nathan Gage won top honors at the ag mechanics competition at the Hockley County Stock Show Wednesday.

A six-foot vented fire-pit built by Whitharral FFA members Kevin Albus, Jamen Day and Matt Pinkert won reserve honors at the show.

Jake Holtman, a member of  the Ropes FFA, showed the grand champion goat at the Hockley County Junior Stock Show and Harlea Hoelscher, a member of the Whitharral 4-H, showed the reserve grand champion goat.

Harlea Hoelscher also won the senior goat showmanship award and Kennlee Tate, a member of the Smyer FFA,  earned the junior goat showmanship award.    

Cooper Carlisle, a member of the Ropes FFA, showed the grand champion lamb at the show. Brogen Johnson, also a member of the Ropes FFA, showed the reserve champion lamb.

Brogen Johnson also won the senior lamb showmanship award and Courtney Black, a Whitharral 4-H member, won the junior showmanship award.
