Snowy weather causes delays but no accidents

A winter storm system sideswiped the county overnight Wednesday, turning roads icy and causing delayed openings for many schools.

Despite snow-packed roads, there were no major accidents Thursday morning.

Classes for Levelland ISD students were delayed until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Late starts were also reported for Anton ISD, Smyer, Whitharral and Whiteface.

South Plains College started classes at 9:30 a.m. while Morton ISD students were on time.

But school was canceled for the day at Ropes ISD.

The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated a minor accident late Wednesday night.

A vehicle struck a telephone pole at FM 1585 and 2646 at 10:41 p.m. There was no report of any one injured.

Lamb County Electric Cooperative was notified about a downed power line in the 2400 block of South FM 3261 early Thursday morning.
