Levelland saw an increase in the incidence of crime in most categories last year compared to 2013.
The number of crimes increased in 13 of 20 categories, according to a city report.
Some increases were minor.
There was an upswing in such crimes against persons as assault and aggravated assault.
It’s difficult to attribute those increases to a particular reason, said Assistant Police Chief Tom McCain.
‘Maybe a couple of years ago you could blame it on the economy, but the economy is not that bad, or wasn’t,’ McCain said. ‘These things fluctuate.’
Aggravated assaults declined in 2013 when compared to 2012. But they were up in 2014 when compared to 2013.
Crimes for 2014 are listed first, followed by 2013 figures in brackets. There were no murders in either year.
