A reinvestment zone for an expanded wind turbine project that will also include solar power was OKíd Monday by county commissioners.
The Hockley County Wind Reinvestment Zone #2 was inked by the officials following a meeting with J. Weston Jackson, a partner with Cummings Westlake LLC.
Jackson said the Red Raider Wind LLC project has been expanded from 80 megawatts to an estimated 200 megawatts.
Approximately 140 megawatts of electric power would be produced by wind turbines, while the rest would be generated by solar panels, he explained.
The zone includes two areas.
