Concerns about the effectiveness of a drainage project prompted the city council to table action on a bid Monday.
City Manager Rick Osburn said the city had received two bids for the Ridgeway alley drainage project.
Osburn recommended that the council accept a $199,277 bid from McHam Construction. The second bid, from West Texas Paving, was for $386,850.
The project includes removing high spots in the alley and reconstructing it.
Once completed, the project should allow water to flow more quickly to Hickory Street during times of heavy rainfall. It will not eliminate the drainage problem, but hopefully it will keep water out of the garages of homes, Osburn said.
The alley will be closed during the project, which means that homeowners will have to park their vehicles on the street and not behind homes.
Garbage collection would have to be moved from the alley to the streets, he added.
