Tri-State Junior High Rodeo making debut in city

The Tri-State Junior High Rodeo Association will roar into action this weekend at the Mallet Event Center & Arena in Levelland.

The Region 1 Finals, which are open to boys and girls in grades 6-8, will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22.

Round 1 will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Round 2 will start at 4 p.m. and end at about 9 p.m.
A church service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The rodeo will start at 10 a.m. Sunday and end at approximately 2 p.m.

Contestants will compete in such events as breakaway roping,  team roping, barrel racing, calf roping and goat tying.

The Saturday morning events are a rodeo and are independent of the Region Finals Saturday afternoon and on Sunday.

The competitors who are the top 10 in points in each event will qualify for the state finals in Gonzales in May.

Approximately 50 competitors are expected to attend this weekend.
