A man escaped injury but lost his airplane when it caught fire Monday afternoon at Levelland Municipal Airport.

Casey Timmons was working on a Glass Air single-engine airplane at the time.

The Wolfforth man said he was doing ìconditioning workî on the craft to get it ready for its annual certification.

Timmons walked to his nearby pickup truck to get an item. When he returned a moment later, the airplane was on fire.

He had a fire extinguisher in his hangar but decided not to use it. Instead, he called 911 and pushed the plane out of the building, keeping the flames from spreading to the hangar.

Levelland firefighters quickly arrived at the scene but it took a combination of water and foam to put out the fire.

The airplane was a total loss.
