A school shooting that horrifield the nation put the Ropes ISD on the road to a $5 million bond issue.
The school board started a dialogue on the bond issue in January 2013, shortly after the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
Trustees asked what the district would do in case an armed intruder got into the building complex.
Lehnen told the board that the school would go into a lockdown phase for all classrooms. That would have left staff with one option only.
‘The problem with a lockdown is it requires administrative personnel to go into the building to see whoís in the hall, in the bathroom,’ he said. ‘By and large I told them we can save our children, but weíre going to be a target.’
