Ropes trustees tap principal as lone finalist

Joel Willmon

Ropes High School Principal Joel Willmon was named the lone finalist for superintendent Tuesday night.

The Ropes ISD school board  picked Willmon from seven applicants.

Willmon has been principal for 13 years and he will succeed Supt. Gary Lehnen, who is retiring this summer.

‘He’s an excellent person and an excellent candidate,’ said school board President Mike Henson.

By law, the school board must now wait 21 days before they can officially hire him as the new superintendent.

Willmon said he has been honored to serve the school district and the community.

‘I’ve enjoyed 13 years as principal,’ he said. ‘We have a strong foundation and we are looking forward to the future success of our district and children.’
