Bill Durham named new Levelland fire chief

Interim fire chief Bill Durham has been named the new fire chief of Levelland.

City Manager Rick Osburn said Wednesday that Durham has done an excellent job since becoming interim chief in January.

ìBillís done a very good job in the 90 days that heís been interim chief,î Osburn said. ìHeís proven himself to make a good fire chief.î

The city did not advertise for someone outside the city to apply for the position, choosing instead to look at employees with the Levelland Fire Department.

Durham succeeds Otis Stark who retired at the end of December.

Durham, who grew up here, became a volunteer firefighter in 1995. He was an oil field machinist and later worked as a police dispatcher before becoming a full-time paid firefighter in 2005.
