Three, two, one – play ball.
With that shout, the city embarked on a new era Saturday when the Levelland-Oxy Sports Complex opened to the public and eager softball players.
The facility is on land that was a cotton field three years ago.
‘I was here for the groundbreaking in 2012. We were excited then, and now I am absolutely amazed at the transition,’ said Vicki Hollub, executive vice president and president of Oxy Oil & Gas Americas. ‘This is like the Field of Dreams for Levelland.’
Occidental Petroleum Corporation donated 60 acres of land for the complex three years ago.
Hollub said Levelland’s determination to tackle the project had resulted in a wonderful facility that will promote team sports benefitting young people.
‘I feel confident that Levelland has hit a home run with this facility,’ she said. ‘Projects like this made us proud to partner with Levelland. I can’t wait to see players get out and play ball.’
