Levelland school board trustees bitterly agreed to a recommendation Thursday that the school district drop educating Childrenís Hope students.
Fifteen employees could lose their jobs in the process.
Superintendent Kelly Baggett told trustees he had not slept well since learning that Children’s Hope would contract with the Mullin ISD for educating 68 students.
‘I haven’t slept since February 27,’ Baggett said. ìWeíve been dealt a crazy, crazy hand.’
Levelland ISD has been educating Children’s Hope students for 12 years, and they are currently taught at Cactus Academic Center.
He said the district had been informed that Children’s Hope had signed a memo of understanding in which Mullin ISD agreed to educate students for them.
The school district has 12 faculty members including one counselor employed at Cactus, as well as a principal and seven support personnel.
