Local residents could begin buying alcohol in Levelland as early as next week.
The passage of a proposition legalizing the sale of alcohol now paves the way for businesses to begin selling beer, wine and hard liquor here.
But, alcohol cannot be sold until after the Levelland City Council canvasses the results of the election on May 18, said City Secretary Beth Walls.
After the city council declares the election results as official, Walls will begin signing permit applications that have been through the proper procedures.
To sell alcohol, an individual must apply for a license through the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
The process leading to alcohol sales includes publishing a notice in a local newspaper.
