Levelland voters elected the cityís first woman mayor and approved the sale of alcoholic beverages Saturday.
Barbra Pinner won a three-year term as mayor after defeating both the incumbent and a third candidate by a solid margin.
Pinner received 1,101 ballots, or 58.1 percent of the total.
Incumbent Waymon Jackson lost his re-election bid after earning 438 ballots, or 23.11 percent of the total.
Former city councilman Larry Davidson trailed in third place with 356 votes.
Pinner will assume office at the city councilís next meeting, on May 18.
Levelland residents OKíd a proposition legalizing the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption.
That measure passed with 1,114 ballots, or 58.48 percent of the total. A total of 791 people voted against it.
