Sales tax payments raise for city, other towns

Reversing a recent trend, a  sales tax rebate for Levelland this month was up significantly compared to a year ago.

The city netted $427,731 from Austin, up 18.94 percent from May 2014.

Payments for Levelland  were down in March and April.

This monthís percentage increase outpaced the average for the state.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent payments totaling $759.8 million to taxing entities, up an average of 6.8 percent when compared to last May.

Cities received $498.1 million, an increase of 6.2 percent  in a yearís time. Counties netted $46.2 million, up 7.0 percent. Transit systems earned $171.4 million, a gain of 7.1 percent, while the $44.1 million sent to special purpose taxing districts marked an increase of 12.5 percent from last May.
