Levelland woman dies in rollover

A woman was killed and two small children were injured in this one-vehicle rollover late Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m., 2.3 miles south of Texas 114 on FM 2646. The driver, whose identity was not available, was northbound when she lost control of this sport utility vehicle. The vehicle went through a fence on the east side of the road and rolled. The victim was ejected during the rollover. More details were not available before press time and the accident is under investigation by the state Department of Public Safety.

The woman who died in a  one-vehicle rollover Tuesday east of the city has been identified as 24-year-old Ana Martinez of Levelland.

The accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. on FM 2646, about 2.3 miles south of Texas 114.

Martinez was northbound in a 2005 Ford Explorer when she lost control.

The vehicle went into a ditch, plowed through a fence and rolled as it entered a field.

Martinez, who was not wearing a safety belt, was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Her two children, ages 4 and 2, were in car seats and suffered minor injuries. They were transported to Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock by ambulance.

An investigation into the accident is continuing.
