Ropes High teacher retiring after 43 years

Bell bottoms were in style and American combat  troops were still in South Vietnam when Jeanie McCormick began teaching.

She liked her job and the school district, Ropes ISD,  so much that she never worked anywhere else.

This week, 43 years later, McCormick is retiring as the Ropes High School business education teacher.

‘It’s been a mixture of emotions,’ she said. ‘I get happy, I get sad. It’s just a flood of things.’
McCormick  almost went into another career but her father, George T. Forbus, always placed a strong emphasis  on education and business skills. And she enjoyed a bookkeeping class that she took while attending Ropes High School in the 1960s.

After graduating from high school in 1967, she attended South Plains College before transferring to Texas Tech University She graduated from Tech in 1972 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
