Heavy thunderstorms hammered the county with torrential rain and some hail Friday, causing widespread street flooding.
Hailstones as large as quarters lashed parts of Levelland while pea-size hail was reported elsewhere.
The cityís downtown got 1.8 inches of rain and there was widespread street flooding.
High water signs were erected on A&M Lane when water washed above the curb, police said.
A threatening wall cloud approached Sundown during the afternoon, but there was no confirmed sighting of a tornado.
City Manager Curtis Schrader said the cloud formation brushed the northwest corner of the city. A heavy thunderstorm dropped pea-size hail and 1.5 inches of rain on the city.
Levelland firefighters responded to a tank battery fire west of the city Thursday afternnon. The fire near the intersection of Texas 114 and FM 303 was apparently sparked by lightning. An explosion blew off the top of the tank and firefighters were on the scene until after 6 p.m.
