County commissioners passed a resolution Monday authorizing city officials to request state funds for an $849,688 improvement project at Levelland Municipal Airport.
The project, which requires a 10 percent match from the county and city, will consist of a crack seal and fog seal on the runway, said Erik Rejino, director of community development.
Rejino said the county and city have accumulated $765,000 in ‘entitlement funds’ in recent years. That money can be used if a local match is made.
He noted that both the county and city have collected about $170,000 in oil royalties from an oil lease at the airport.
The Airport Advisory Board has recommended that the county and city contribute funds from those royalties for the match.
