United Cotton Growers has profitable year

United Cotton Growers Cooperative patrons were advised that their gin turned out over 113,900 bales last season but more importantly that it had a very profitable year and was returning  $4.6 million to its customers Thursday evening during the annual meeting.

In addition, patrons were advised that the cooperative had paid off all of its debt before undertaking a huge $3.8 million expansion and improvement project which will eventually allow the gin to turn out between 110 and 120 bales per hour.

The project, which is underway, will include installation of a second gin press, bale moisture system, hydraulic pump room, bale dock for loading vans, additional cleaning stack, storage for bale packaging, compressor room and plastic press area.

Construction has been hampered by the rain and wet weather, but the expansion will be complete before the start of the 2015 harvest season, UCG Manager Paul Wilson reported during the annual meeting, which was held at the Mallet Event Center.
