Ninety-nine indictments were returned against 51 people on Wednesday.

It was the largest number of indictments handed down in at least 20 years.

Asked about the paperwork, District Attorney Christopher Dennis said, ‘There are a lot of people in jail. We’re trying to move cases as quickly as we can.’

Most of the indictments were for possession of a controlled substance (PCS), especially methamphetamine.

‘There is plenty of meth to be found in Hockley County,î Dennis said. ‘Our officers are doing a good job of fighting it.’

Bobby Joe Gonzales, 28, of Levelland was indicted on eight charges of PCS with intent to deliver or manufacture/ delivery of a controlled substance.

Gonzales was charged with the possession of various quantities of methamphetamine in February and March.
