Riders compete at Caprock Sale & Futurity

Levelland was the place to be this past weekend when cowpokes from across the region came to town for the annual Caprock Ranchers Sale and Futurity.

Some of them – like Matt Turner of Wyoming – traveled a long way for the competition.

Turner, a horse trainer for the Silver Spur Ranch near Saratoga, Wyoming, said he was going to show one horse in the futurity.

He said a futurity is a good place to learn more about training horses.

‘You take ’em to town and then you go ‘Aah, my horse ain’t very good,’ Turner said.

‘Seeing how other riders handle their horses is a good way to learn more,’ he added.

‘I just like to see the horses, see where they’re at,’ Turner said. ìItís a training tool for me.

‘You’re always learning.’
