A new fire station, tasers for police officers and park awnings were among the requests aired Tuesday during a city council budget workshop.
Fire Chief Bill Durham said a new fire station next year will drive much of the increase in his departmentís budget.
A payment of $562,000 for the facility will boost spending to $1,786,382 in 2015-16.
Durham said the department also needs four airpacks priced at $6,000 apiece, and 10 new bunkers, or protective suits.
He said GPS monitoring equipment put on trucks will give firefighters more safety when they are fighting grass fires or other emergencies.
In 2010, the department had an incident in which one truck got stuck during a grass fire, and a second truck couldnít be located because of dense smoke.
