A rock hauling bid and a contract for indigent health care clients were approved Monday by Hockley County commissioners.
The officials accepted a $7,100 bid from Angel Hernandez to transport 1,000 tons of rock from a pit in the northern part of the county to Kelly and Sagebrush roads in Precinct 2.
It will take 50 truckloads to move all of the material, said Commissioner Larry Carter.
That price, which translates into $142 a load, is $20 per ton cheaper than another hauling contract that the county recently entered, noted Commissioner Tommy Clevenger.
Becky Currington, public assistance coordinator, said she recently negotiated a contract between the county and three clinics that will replace a 2003 contract.
