Meth drug trial ends with plea argument
A second drug trial this week was canceled Thursday morning after the defendant entered a plea bargain with the state.
Angel Moreno Chavez was given two years deferred adjudication after he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance before District Judge Pat Phelan.
As part of the agreement, Chavez was fined $500, and ordered to pay $180 restitution and court costs. He also waived his right to an appeal.
The agreement was agreed to late Thursday morning after a jury was seated and ready to hear testimony.
District Attorney Christopher Dennis said an agreement was reached after a crucial piece of evidence in the case could not be found.
