SPC buying Lubbock property for technology

South Plains College Regents unanimously approved a $2 million purchase of a 70,000 sq. ft. former auto dealership on a seven-acre piece of property at 3907 Ave. Q in Lubbock to provide space for nine technology programs currently housed in the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center.

At the same time, regents were advised that South Plains College has received commitments of $4 million for Phase I renovation of the center from the Helen Jones Foundation, $3 million from the CH Foundation and up to $2.9 million from the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance.

The approval action, which included authorization for Dr. Kelvin Sharp to sign all necessary documents related to the purchase,  was taken during a rare special meeting and executive session Thursday evening in the SPC Board of Regents Room in the Administration building on the Levelland campus.
