A partnership supporting the creation of the new South Plains College Lubbock Center took further shape Tuesday in Lubbock.
Dr. Kelvin Sharp, SPC president, said the collaboration involving ìcommunity partnersî will lead to the opening of a facility that will create opportunities for students, the college, Lubbock ISD and private enterprise.
Last week, SPCís Board of Regents approved a $2 million purchase of the former Shamrock Chevrolet dealership property on Avenue Q in Lubbock.
It will be five blocks south of the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center.
The college has received $9.9 million in commitments from the Helen Jones Foundation, the CH Foundation and the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance to renovate and equip 45,000-square feet of the former dealership on seven acres of land.
