Train derails at Smyer, no injuries reported

No one was injured when a train derailed Sunday Sundown at Smyer.

An eastbound train derailed just a short distance east of FM 168.

The derailment led authorities to close FM 168 to traffic at the intersection of Texas 114.

It was closed one to two hours, according to the Hockley County Sheriffís Office.

A report filed by a sheriffís deputy stated that it appeared the rail bed collapsed.

Crews with Hulcher Services Inc. were removing damaged  rail cars Monday morning.

It was the second train derailment in the county since early June.
