Muralist thrives on painting scenes for public

While bare concrete walls may seem drab to most people, Tom Iglesias sees them as an opportunity to create something beautiful and dramatic.

Iglesias has done just that with the east wall of the Levelland Chamber of Commerce building.

Motorists are encouraged to drive into the parking lot behind the building.

They will find a mural that captures many of the elements of life in Hockley County.

The swirl of colors displays a train, a horse, a pumpjack and other sights familiar to local residents.

After being delayed by wet weather earlier this week, the visiting artist finished his work on Thursday.

He may do more.

Iglesias, who grew up in Whiteface and then Levelland, calls western North Carolina home.
