Lindale resident John W. Clary was tapped Thursday as the new executive director of the Levelland Economic Development Corporation.
Clary will begin his duties here Sept. 14.
He will replace Shawn Kirkpatrick, who resigned in April to become executive director of the EDC in Bastrop.
The LEDC board announced that Clary had been selected after meeting in closed session.
Clary has served as president of the Lindale EDC for eight years.
He has 18 years of experience in economic development and has won numerous awards for his contributions to development programs, including the Texas Economic Development Council CEDA award for developing the Lindale Industrial Park and FedEx Ground distribution center; and the International Economic Development Councilís Gold award for the Lindale EDC website.
While serving as executive director of the Harlingen Downtown Improvement District, Claryís team won an award for the Best Downtown Management District in Texas by the Texas Downtown Association.
The LEDC used Strategic Government Resources of Keller to find the most qualified candidate. The firm specializes in conducting executive searches for local government.
More than 10 applications were received and two finalists were recently interviewed.
Elgin Conner, LEDC board president, said Clary has the experience and passion to lead the cityís economic development efforts.
‘With the help of SGR we were able to perform an extensive search to find not only who we feel is the best qualified candidate, but also someone who shares our vision for the future growth of Levelland,’ Conner said. ‘John has the experience, personality and passion to successfully lead our economic development efforts.’
