Levelland toddler dies when run over by vehicle

A toddler died late Monday afternoon when she was run over by a vehicle at a Kauffman Addition home.

Annylah Ortiz, age 13  months, was killed when her  grandmother apparently ran over her while she was backing out of the driveway in a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The tragedy occurred at 5:52 p.m. at the victimís home in the 100 block of Rip Street.

Firefighters attempted to revive the toddler before an ambulance crew arrived.

Annylah was taken by ambulance to Covenant Hospital Levelland, where a doctor tried to revive her.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital and an autopsy was ordered by Justice of the Peace Brenda Nock.

The toddlerís grandmother,  who lives at the residence, told police that she thought all of the kids were in the house at the time. Annylah apparently followed the woman outside, police said.

Annylah was struck by the left rear wheel of the sport utility vehicle.

Her mother was at work at the time of the accident.

Police Chief Toney Cowan said the death appears to have been an accident.

‘It’s just a tragedy,’ Cowan said.
