It was dad’s turn this time.
Eric Silhan achieved a personal first Tuesday when he harvested the first bales of cotton this fall in Cochran County.
Silhan also beat his sonís record.
Jacob Silhan brought in the first bales of the season last year – on Oct. 13 – on irrigated land west of Morton.
Eric Silhan harvested four bales of cotton Tuesday afternoon on four acres of dryland just east of Morton.
It was ginned Tuesday evening at Willingham Gin Inc. in Morton.
Silhan said he planted the cotton on May 12 and used Americot UA48 conventional seed. He did not have to replant.
‘We were blessed; we got all the good rains,’ he said.
Silhan said the field was defoliated a week before.
