System brings rain to area, more moisture expected

Persistent showers  brought  more than an inch of rain to much of the county through Monday morning.

The rainy weather delayed what might have been the first bales of cotton to be harvested this fall in Hockley County.

One producer was set to strip cotton Monday in the vicinity of Citizens-Shallowater Co-op Gin, said gin employee Linda Stevens.

Rain and high humidity delayed the work.

Showers that started Sunday before tapering off Monday morning dropped 1.4 inches of rain at the cotton gin.

The showers dropped from 1.2 to 1.8 inches of rain in Ropesville, said Alfred Thompson.

ìWeíre getting closerî to ginning the first bales of the season, Thompson said.

Showers dumped 1.5 inches of moisture in downtown Levelland.
