The city will lease a small piece of property to an oilfield service company, city council members agreed Monday.
Assistant City Manager Erik Rejino said Renegade Services had approached the city about leasing 2 Ω acres of land.
The property is next to a retention pond that is on the southwest corner of the Levelland-Oxy Sports Complex.
Rejino said the company wants to use the land for its backhoe services.
The company will store equipment and trailers on the land, and it does not plan to erect a building on the site.
The council agreed, after meeting for 10 minutes in closed session, to lease the property for five years at $3,000 a year.
Councilman Joe Bill Vardeman’s motion to lease the land was approved by the rest of the council.
