County commissioners Monday inked an agreement in which Garza County will house inmates from Hockley County.
It will cost the county more per inmate, though, than existing contracts with two other counties.
Under the agreement, this county will pay Garza County $45 a day to house prisoners from here.
Hockley County currently pays both Terry and Bailey counties $38 a day to house inmates.
However, Garza County will transport up to four inmates at a time to and from this county as part of the agreement, said Sheriff R.C. Cheek.
Those transportation costs are built into the fees, Cheek said.
Commissioner Larry Carter asked if the Hockley County Jail has run out of room for prisoners.
Jail Administrator Cliff Robinison said, ‘I’m hunting for beds right now.’
‘Everybody’s costs are going up – same as ours,’ Robinson said. ‘Beds are getting harder to find.’
