Jack Call wasnít sure what he wanted to do.

After graduating from Brownfield High School in 1964, he attended Texas Technological College for a year.

But he decided to leave college.

‘I wanted a break from education,’ Call said. ‘I was tired of school.’

It was 1965 and his father, Jack, told him, ‘You know whatís fixing to happen.’

Call said yes, noting that he had already talked with an Air Force recruiter and had taken  qualification and entrance exams.

Call entered active duty in October 1965 and went to Lackland Air Force Base for basic training.
At that time, basic training at the air base in San Antonio was six weeks.
