A grand jury returned indictments Thursday for such offenses as drug possession, tampering with evidence and assault on a public servant.
Charges of engaging in criminal activity were handed down against five people implicated in a crack cocaine distribution ring.
An investigation spearheaded by the Department Public Safety probed the distribution of large amounts of the drug in2013 and 2014 in Hockley, Garza, Lamb, Terry and Lubbock counties.
Investigators used wire interception of cell phone conversations and confidential informants to make the cases.
The defendants charged with engaging in criminal activity were:
Mary Sue Baker, 44, of Lubbock; Debra Ann Allwein, 60, of Levelland; Artemia Loa Gonzales, 42, of Levelland; Ruth Lenora Rhodes, also known as Ruth Okalibe, 54, of Levelland; and Khristilyn Watters, 36, of Lubbock.
