Contested races develop in tow counties
More candidates have fled for elected office in Hockley and Cochran counties, and Monday, Dec. 14, is the deadline for filing.
Hockley County
A two-way contest is garnering interest in the sheriffís election.
Incumbent R.C. Cheek is seeking a second term in office. He faces a challenge from a former employee, Ray Scifres.
A race has developed in the Pct. 1 county commissionerís election.
Incumbent Curtis Thrash has pickedup a challenger: Jackie Howell Ellison.
J.L. ‘Whitey’ Barnett, who serves voters in Precinct 3, has no opponent so far in his re-election bid.
Tax Assessor-Collector Debbie Bramlett is running for a new four-year
term. She has no opponent.
District Attorney Christopher Dennis is running for a new four-year term.
Two men are running for the position of Precinct 2 constable.
They are former sheriffís deputy Kevin Elmore and former chief juvenile probation officer Robert Dalton.
Precinct 5 Constable Michael L. Scott filed as a candidate.
