Council OKs project & zones for wine industry

Another sidewalk project was approved and zoning regulations related to wine and brew pub industries were OKíd Monday by the city council.

Assistant City Manager Erik Rejino said the city has about $47,000 left in available funds for a project on Austin Street.

Three projects are already under way in the 700 block of Austin, and M&S Concrete submitted bids for Phase 2 of the work.

Three priorities were identified for additional work as part of Phase 2, and Rejino said staff recommended that half a block in the 800 block of Austin be rebuilt at a cost of $42,500.

That will leave the city $5,000 left over from $150,000 funded for sidewalk replacements in the current fiscal year.

Councilman Max Ledesma asked how long would it take to complete the latest project.

Billy Youngblood, council member, said the work should take two weeks or less to finish.

Stephen Henry, News-Press publisher, said the three projects now under way are moving rapidly.

‘They’re moving right along,’ Henry said. ‘On behalf of the downtown merchants, thank you.’
