Joe Tubb recognized as distinguished citizen

South Plains College Athletic Director Joe Tubb was named the Friends of Scouting Distinguished Citizen during a luncheon Friday.

Tubb, who is in his 33rd year as director of athletics, has overseen 40 NJCAA Championships in menís and womenís track and field, cross country, half-marathon, and menís basketball, said Assistant Athletic Director Lyndon Hardin.

ìHeís been a champion for youth and youth sports for the past 33 years,î Hardin said.

Tubb has served in multiple capacities in his 45-year career over the years and has been instrumental in the growth of two-year collegiate athletics. He was the recipient of the highest honor bestowed by the National Alliance of Two-Year Collegiate Athletic Administrators when he was presented the L. William Miller Award at a Dallas luncheon on June 25, 2012.  In 2006 and 2010 he was named Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of College Athletic Directors.

‘He has held multiple leadership roles,’ said Hardin. ‘He has been an ambassador for South Plains College and the South Plains region.î’
