Firemen beat blaze

FIREMEN WIN–Levelland firemen extinguished a backyard fire behind a vacant house in the 200 block of Austin Monday afternoon. Their quick work prevented the fire from doing serious damage.

Quick work by the Levelland Fire Department prevented a backyard grass fire from spreading to the home at 202 Austin Street Monday afternoon.
Firemen were dispatched to the backyard blaze at 2:43 p.m. as gray smoke bellowed into the sky.
Fanned by high winds, the backyard was fully engulfed in flames that were spreading to sections of a wooden fence that lay in the backyard.
Firemen responded with three trucks and a total of 10 firemen. Within a few minutes, firemen had the blaze knocked down.
