Three die in accident

Three Kress residents were killed in a one-vehicle roll-over on U.S. 62/82 about two miles north of Ropesville around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Ambulances, fire department units, and Sheriff’s deputies all responded to the mishap, which occurred when the driver of the  late-model Chevrolet Suburban ran off the pavement onto the median, over-corrected going into a sideway skid across both east lanes. The vehicle rolled several times from the shoulder, coming to rest upright in a field on the south side of the major highway.

Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the accident scene but only one survivor was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock with incapacitating injuries. 

Justice of the Peace Sue Coker pronounced three victims dead at the scene.

The driver was 42-year-old Linda Rodriguez of Kress. She was pronounced dead a the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The right front passenger was the driver’s daughter, 11-year-old Jade Villeda. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.

The right, back seat passenger was 76-year-old Angel Rodriguez of Kress. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

The only survivor was 76-year-old Francisa Rodriguez, who was the left back seat passenger and the wife of Angel Rodriguez. She was transported to UMC with incapacitating injuries.

The fatal mishap is being investigated by DPS Trooper Tyson out of Lubbock.
