Levelland residents were surprised by a fast-moving thunderstorm which produced hail and heavy rain Tuesday afternoon.
Light rain fell Tuesday morning but the severe storm developed quickly around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. Rainfall measured from seven- to nine-tenths of an inch and over an inch of pea and nickel size hail accumulated on streets, lawns and roofs in the south part of town.
The heaviest hail was south of Clubview Drive and extended through the Country Club and University additions of the city. Hail covered the greens of the Levelland Country Club and steam rose as a result of the ice melting on the warm ground and grass. (Staff Photo)
