Levelland firefighters responded to the scene of a house fire Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m. at 102 Redwood Lane.

Upon arrival, the garage of the house was fully engulfed in flames and a Dodge pickup truck was beginning to catch fire in the driveway of the home.

The department extinguished the fire and was able to get everyone out of the house.

One person was checked by Levelland EMS for smoke inhalation.

A dog was found deceased on scene in the utility room of the home.

Witnesses claimed to have heard a loud noise, similar to an explosion, but Jay McKay, fire marshal, said this was not the cause of the fire. He also said rumors that the homeowner was cooking on a grill had started the fire was unsubstantiated. The cause is under investigation.

Firefighters were on scene until 11:35 p.m.

The property loss is estimated to be around $75,000 in property and $20,000 in contents. McKay, said he expects that number will go up.
