The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office arrested three people Friday night as the result of a rooster fighting and gambling investigation.
The department served a search warrant on a property in the 100 block of American Road in Levelland related to suspected illegal rooster fighting activities on Saturday, July 28.
Through the month of July, investigators received credible information related to possible cockfighting and gambling activities at a location north of Levelland.
The sheriff’s office initiated an investigation in conjunction with the 286th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The multi-agency operation was conducted Saturday, involving the search warrant for the property. When officer arrived, the alleged illegal activities were ongoing.
Approximately 45 individuals were detained by officers while the property was searched for evidence.
During the execution of the search warrant Saturday, two individuals, Eulogio Guerro, Jr., of Levelland; and Kenny Grubbs, of Portales, New Mexico, were arrested on for cockfighting, a felony offense.
Along with the felony arrest, one individual was arrested for a misdemeanor offense. Thirty-seven citations were issued, 107 birds were seized, five suspected immigrants were detained, and five deceased birds were located.
