Levelland detectives are investigating an unattended death that occurred Thursday morning.
At 10:08 a.m. Thursday, officers along with EMS personnel were dispatched to the Legacy Apartments, No. 107, in reference to an unresponsive person. Upon arrival, the officer discovered the man wasn’t breathing and assisted with chest compressions on the subject, according to reports.
The man was identified as Rockye Dow, 63, of Levelland. He was transported to the Levelland Covenant Emergency Room but was pronounced deceased at 10:26 a.m.
Reports indicated a neighbor told officers Dow had sent her a text message earlier asking her to go to the store for him. She said when she arrived at his apartment, she knocked on his door and he told her to go away at that time.
She also advised that a female subject inside the apartment with Dow had come next door asking for aspirin.
A short time later, the woman returned and said something was wrong with Dow.
When the neighbor went and checked on him, she called 911. He was laying on a couch in the living room area.
Investigators searched for the woman but were unable to locate her.
An autopsy was underway Friday, but Levelland Police Captain Tammie McDonald said it could be months before final results are received.
She said the death is being investigated as an unattended death and it is unclear whether foul play is suspected at this time.
