A man was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony, after a couple discovered the man hiding in their home at 410 9th Street, Tuesday.
Ed, 79, and Rosa Chavez, 82, told police they were the only persons at home when they heard someone cough from inside their residence around 8 p.m. that evening. Rosa called her daughter while Ed checked the residence.
According to police reports, Ed found a man hiding in the shower stall in the bathroom of the residence. Ed told officers he ordered the man to get out of the residence while wielding a metal cane. Ed said the man began traveling quickly westbound on 9th Street.
Officers began to head in the direction indicated by the couple of where the suspect had gone.
Back at the residence, the couple told officers they suspected the man had entered the residence while they were eating dinner with their daughter about an hour before he was discovered.
They said after dinner, they went to their living room to watch television. Nobody entered the residence due to the front door being locked after their daughter left, they said.
According to reports, while speaking with the couple, a radio call indicated a male suspect, matching the description provided by the couple, had been seen leaving the backyard of a residence at 508 8th Street. The man
The man was escorted back to the home at 410 9th Street where he was positively identified by the couple as the suspect found inside their home earlier that evening. The man was identified as John Angel Flores, 42, of Levelland. He was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation. He is being held at the Hockley County Jail on a bond of $10,000.
